CapCity LL managers, coaches, and families should be aware of several Little League Baseball rule changes that take effect starting spring 2008:
- All players who are league age 12 must be drafted to a Major Division team.
- To be eligible for post-season tournament teams players must play in at least 60% of all regular season games.
- In Minor Division games, in order to speed up games, no more than five (5) runs can be scored by a team during a half inning.
- A continuous batting order is mandatory for National, American and Minor Division games. This means that all players are in the batting lineup and no offensive substitutions are made during a game.
There will be several added changes to the Little League baseball pitch count rule for Major and Minor Divisions:
- In addition to required rest days, a player may not pitch in consecutive games if he or she threw 41 or more pitches in the previous game.
- A pitcher who delivers one or more pitches in a game cannot play the position of catcher for the remainder of that day.
- If an intentional walk is given in the Major Division the pitcher must complete all pitches to the batter and the pitches will count toward the pitch count. Intentional walks are not permitted in the Minor Division.
CapCity LL will review the rules with division commissioners and managers/coaches prior to the start of the spring 2008 season. For detailed information on these official Little League rules changes go to: http://www.littleleague.org/rules/index.asp.
