Board Candidate Statements
Annual Meeting -- November 15, 2011

Steve Bosak

I am the parent of an American league player and enjoy helping his coach run practices and games.  I expect my younger son to start Cap City next year.  I've been impressed by the dedication of coaches, parents, and kids to the Cap City league and value the way the league helps bring our community together while teaching kids about team work and sportsmanship.  My kids and family plan to be involved with Cap City for a number of years so I want to invest in the league's future.  I'd like to strengthen my commitment by serving on the board and pitching in on projects that need board attention.

Stephen Ganote

I have been lucky enough to be a part of youth baseball in our neighborhood for 8 years now, with one son who just completed his CapCity career and another in the Minors.  I have coached pre-CapCity Tee-Ball and at every level of CCLL (National, American, Minors, Majors, DCPR Tournaments, and the 12U All-Star team), and for the first time have been a parent-in-the-bleachers this entire fall season.  And I am also part of CCLL’s Skills Development Committee, which is focused on ensuring all kids in the league get a core level of instruction in baseball fundamentals.  CapCity has been a great overall experience, allowing me to watch and participate in the dozens of kids’ baseball development.  The most rewarding part has been seeing so many kids gain a sense of personal pride and accomplishment as they learn and use new baseball skills – regardless of their talent level or background.  I’d like to now use these experiences to help CCLL continue to expand its appeal in the neighborhood, make sure all games as fun as they can be for kids to play (and parents to watch), and continue helping improve our teaching of fundamental baseball skills to all of our players

Scott Gold

I am writing to express my interest in a position as a member of the Capitol City Little League's Board of Directors.  My two kids (Maddie and Noah) and I have been involved with the League for the last four years.  During that time, I have served as National, American and currently Minors Division Commissioner.  In the role of Commissioner, I have had the pleasure of meeting a lot of great kids and parents as well as had a first hand view at how Cap City creates a stronger sense of community.  As a board member, I will work to strengthen the Cap City community for multiple leagues.  For the Minors and Majors division, I will work to create an on-going structured extra play opportunity for those players who want additional playing opportunities.  For the National and American Division, I will champion a program that would provide kids and coaches, who are new to the league, with professional instruction on fundamental skills for new players and new coaches.

Jim Parisi

My name is Jim Parisi, and I am running for the Cap City Board of Directors because I believe that softball should have a representative on the board.  The commitment I have made to the softball program over the past few years makes me a strong candidate for the position.  I have been a coach for 12U softball for the past two years; before that I was an assistant coach with my daughter Nora's teams.  In addition to my team coaching duties I have helped run a series of summer practices for all softball players, and Nora and I have been responsible for field prep for baseball and softball games at Upshur.  I have also worked closely with the softball commissioner on various issues having to do with league operations over the past year.

As a board member I will work to make sure that the softball program--and Cap City as a whole--continues to grow and become more competitive, while still providing a positive, supportive environment for our players.  While softball would be my focus, obviously as a board member I would work to further the larger interests of the entire Cap City organization.  Additionally, and maybe most importantly, as a lifelong Mets fan I unfortunately do not foresee that there will be any pennant races to distract me from putting in the time and effort to fulfill my duties to the board and to the Cap City community.

Tom Toggas

I am applying to become a board member to hopefully bring a different perspective to the league management.  All 3 of my children participated in the various levels of Cap City Little League, including girl’s softball.  I have insight into the many prior decisions that board members have made that will help positively guide the future of the league if elected to the board.  Having played 10 years of baseball in little league and high school and competing on, and being an assistant coach on a Division 1 college athletic team, gives me a unique vision for the continued development of the league.

Kim Webster

I am interested in sitting on the Cap City board for two reasons.  First, I have two boys that started with CCLL this year, one is 5 and the other 7.  I want to be involved.  My husband is helping with coaching and I would like to be a part also.  They will be sticking with this for a while.  Second, I am home during the day, I have both boys in full days at school and am looking for an enjoyable activity to join.  I'm not sure what needs there are but I would hope to be matched up with something I could do during school hours.  I am not available evening hours.  Thank you for your consideration.

Amy Finch Williams

Our family has been involved with Cap City since the spring of 2008 (we moved to DC from Boston in the summer of 2007).  My daughter Olivia played in the Majors on the Glory for 2 seasons, the Bulldogs for 1 season and the Titans for 3 seasons.  She continued on to play last spring in the Juniors division with the Ducks and just finished the fall season with the Owls.  She has also played in a few tournaments with the DC Dinos, the 14U softball travel team.  I have been involved with CCLL as a scorekeeper and sometime assistant coach when my daughter was in the Majors, and as a board member for the last 2 years.  As a member of the board I was in charge of the softball uniforms, the season scheduling for the entire league and the occasional graphic design project.

I believe this girls’ softball league provides an excellent option for girls not interested in soccer, or for girls not already involved in a sport.  I think the girls softball program has improved over the last few years, due to some changed in the rules (stealing and sliding), with the addition of games with teams outside the league, and with the introduction of the 10U and 12U divisions in the Majors.  My hope is that the softball program will continue to improve and expand.  I would also like to have more skills clinics in the winter and at the beginning of the season.

I continue to see this league as an excellent opportunity for girls from different schools around the area to get to know each other, as well as a chance to pick up a sport that they may continue to play in high school.  I am strongly in favor of sports for young girls to build self-confidence, experience team camaraderie and to get outside!
